These sugar mill tabby ruins are located off Charlie Smith Highway in St. Marys, just pass the Stimpson gate to Kingsbay Naval Base. You will feel like you're looking through windows into the past when you walk the grounds. The ruins are a spectacular place to take both casual and formal photos and are a great outdoor wedding venue. This is also the site of a comfort station for the St. Marys Tabby Trail a multi-purpose trail that will, when completely done, take you from Crooked River to downtown and connect you to the East Coast Greenway. The ruins are believed to have been built in the late 1820s. It is a tabby structure with very thick walls. At the time the sugarhouse was constructed, it is believed that thick-walled buildings such as this tabby one built by John McIntosh were essential to ensure the warmth needed for superior sugar production.
