The Blackwater Draw Museum seeks to foster the preservation and education of the heritage of New Mexico, the Southern High Plains, and the greater Southwest through exhibitions, educational programs, collections, and research while enriching and supporting the educational goals and mission of ENMU.
Our facilities include both a National Historic Landmark and Museum located in Portales, New Mexico. We are owned and operated by Eastern New Mexico University where we are proud to be part of the Anthropology and Applied Archaeology department.
The Museum
Originally built to house materials from the National Historic Landmark, this facility has grown to include collections from all over the greater Southwest and Southern High Plains.
The National Historic Landmark
Found outside of Portales, this location is iconic within the archaeological community as the type-site for the Clovis culture and a place to see Pleistocene megafauna.
