Soldier for Life – Transition Assistance Program (SFL-TAP) is an Army Transition services program that provides resources to assist separating Active Duty and Reserve Component Soldiers and their spouses in making an informed decision to either reenlist or separate. Spouses are eligible to attend and use SFL-TAP services if their sponsors are enrolled in the program. Retirees may continue to use SFL-TAP services indefinitely and may start the process up to 24 months prior to their anticipated date of retirement. Normal separation may start from 12 months of anticipated separation date and have up to 180 days to continue using ACAP services after separation.
Completing and signing the DD Form 2648/2648-1 does not obligate a Soldier to leave the Army. The DD Form 2648/2648-1 is a required document in Soldiers’ 201 files upon separation and in MEB packets at initiation of an MEB.
Chapter cases (voluntary or involuntary), REFRAD, Medical chapters all should begin SFL-TAP services as soon as procedure is initiated.
Deploying Soldiers who will have less than 180 days from their ETS dates upon redeployment should complete the mandatory preseparation briefing prior to deployment.
Soldiers can access on-line services to schedule appointments and view calendar of events at www.acapexpress.army.mil.
