Navy Community Recreation encompasses leisure skills classes, outdoor recreation and rentals, auto skills, sailing parks, and picnic areas and green spaces, information and resources, tickets and travel, command and fleet support, and special events for the entire Navy Community. Outdoor Recreation facilities provide equipment rental for the party and picnic rental gear for both personal and fleet/command use. Community Recreations also provides support for non-MWR events to include equipment, parks, picnic areas & beaches, programming ideas, and coordination assistance to enhance events. Navy Community Recreation also encompasses tickets and leisure travel services through its Tickets & Travel Offices at each installation. Each base installation has a Community Recreation Director as a point of contact to assist you in planning your command picnics, events, tournaments and etc.

The Dunes at Dam Neck offers you a one-stop-shop for all of your welcome centers, Tickets & Travel, beach equipment rentals, picnics, and Dam Neck Cottage needs. We offer a large variety of hotel and attraction tickets locally and throughout the East coast. Learn about your local MWR facilities and programs in one facility. If you’re planning a picnic, Dam Neck offers three picnic sites (one with a ball field and two close to the beach). When you are ready to enjoy the sun, beach, and waves at Dam Neck, don’t lug chairs, umbrellas, and water sports equipment; rent your beach equipment right on the beach from the Dune’s Wagon. The Dam Neck Liberty Program & Community Recreation Office partners with other N9 and installation departments to share resources, enhance programming, and offer installation-wide special events. Events and programming include (but not limited to) day trips to various leisure and recreational destinations to encourage community discovery, creative expression programs (such as art and entertainment activities), along with facilitated healthy leisure skill development such as classes, workshops, and clinics; all while fostering social interaction among peers and the community.

The Dam Neck Liberty & Community Recreation Office also offers various types of in-house programming such as Texas Hold’Em and Ping Pong Tournaments, themed watch-parties for major sporting events such as the NFL and NBA games, holiday events and gatherings for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Independence Day, and much more! The Dam Neck Liberty Center & Community Recreation Office works in conjunction with other MWR facilities and programs to add little to no-cost entertainment to patrons and service members on the Dam Neck Annex base.

The majority of our patronage is Sailors and Marines in their first phases of professional training, largely 18 to 25-year-olds, with no transportation for any off-duty activities. The Liberty & Community Recreation Office provides off-base shuttles weekly to local area vendors such as Red Mill Commons Shopping Center, Lynnhaven Mall, the NAS Oceana NEX and Commissary, and more. The Dam Neck Liberty & Community Recreation Office also provides 15 internet computers with CAC readers, Skype cameras, printing and scanning capabilities, free high-speed Wi-Fi, six pool tables, ping pong tables and an air hockey table, a large gaming systems room complete with Xbox One’s, PlayStation 4’s, individual gaming monitors and large flat-screen TVs; all for your interactive gaming enjoyment!

The facility also houses a mini-movie theater with 38 stadium reclining seating and state of the art surround sound. Come browse over 700 HD movies to choose from for free, courtesy of the Navy Motion Pictures (NDVD) program. Special “movie premiere” nights are held once or twice per month, showing the most currently released movies. Free popcorn, slushies, and other small items are normally offered free of charge during these “special premiers”. The Oasis Liberty Center & Community Recreation Office also provides 6 large, flat-screen, HD TVs for TV entertainment, additional movies, and more gaming!

The beach at Dam Neck is three miles long and includes the North beach, surfing beach, South Beach, watersport’s beach, and fishing, and dog beach. In 2015, the base expanded the width of the beach which now affords MWR room to offer beach concessions and rental items. The North and South beaches are the only areas that have lifeguards on duty and where swimming is permitted when the beaches are open.

NAS Oceana Freedom Lanes Bowling Center is a one-stop-shop for the bowling enthusiasts of any age! Our bowling center boasts highly trained staff, a full-service pro shop, 24 professionally maintained lanes, and a fully-stocked snack bar, with food made fresh to order! Freedom Lanes offers “Cosmic Bowling” on Friday and Saturday nights from 10 p.m. to midnight, and is aggressively pursuing additional league business! Seaside Lanes Bowling Center features 12 high-quality lanes as well as a private, four-lane, miniature bowling party area. Seaside lanes also offer cosmic bowling on Friday and Saturday and have Pizza Bowl Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. which includes two hours of bowling with shoe rental, one large, one-topping pizza, and a pitcher of soda with one refill, call for pricing.
