Financial Assistance

Resources are available to help you understand and manage your finances, including one-on-one financial counseling to assist you and your family with financial readiness. Services are designed to focus on money management issues throughout your active-duty lifecycle and into retirement.  Financial readiness educational opportunities range from basic planning to long-term investing. Check out the information below to see what’s available at your installation.

Financial Planning and Preparedness

Financial guidance is offered to those experiencing money management difficulties or for those who wish to be in control of their finances. The Scott Airman and Family Readiness Center’s Personal Financial Readiness Program offers confidential and individualized financial planning assistance, workshops, and classes on a recurring basis to all service members, retirees, Department of Defense civilians, and their families with regard to learning the principles and concepts of personal financial management.

Information and assistance are available in areas such as military pay and allowances, goal setting, savings, debt management, car buying, credit card management, Department of Veterans Affairs home loans, credit management, financial planning, understanding the Thrift Savings Plan, investment fundamentals, mutual funds, and much more. There are also trained staff members available to assist with a variety of financial goals or concerns including identity theft prevention and credit report reviewing.

Completing a permanent change of station can be a time when finances become strapped. Military members and their families should contact their current Airman and Family Readiness Center or the SA&FRC upon arrival for assistance in addressing their financial concerns and goals.

Personal Financial Management Program (PFMP)

There are many hidden costs when moving. To ensure you are prepared, discuss moving and financial preparedness with the Community Readiness Specialists and Consultants at the Scott Airman and Family Readiness Center.

The Personal Financial Management Program offers a full range of education, training, counseling, and information on money issues. Financial computer programs are available to help set up a budget, determine a debt repayment schedule, and identify financial needs.

A Basic Money Management class is provided through the First Term Airmen's Center. A variety of seminars including mutual funds, stocks, wills and trusts, insurance, credit laws, and investing provide helpful information to Scott Air Force Base personnel. One-on-one counseling is available on a walk-in basis.

Air Force Aid Society

The Air Force Aid Society has supported the Air Force mission by providing worldwide emergency assistance, sponsoring education assistance programs, and offering an array of base community enhancement programs that improve the quality of life for airmen and their families. At Scott Air Force Base, the Scott Airman and Family Readiness Center also liaisons with the other relief agencies. These include Army Emergency Relief, Navy/Marine Corps Relief Society, and Coast Guard Mutual Aid to provide emergency financial assistance to members and retirees of other branches of service.

Although military members that are notified of a new assignment are encouraged to financially plan for their move, if a financial emergency arises, the Air Force Aid Society may be able to provide emergency financial assistance on a case-by-case basis. If an emergency occurs en route to your next duty station, contact the nearest military base. If no military installation is located in the immediate vicinity of the location of the emergency, military members are encouraged to contact the American Red Cross which can act as a liaison to the various relief agencies.

During a permanent change-of-station move, Air Force members with children are authorized up to 20 free hours of child care per child within 60 days of departing their old base and an additional 20 free hours per child within 60 days of arrival at Scott AFB. Child care hours must be used in a family child care home licensed by the base. To receive a program voucher and a copy of the current family child care provider list, bring a copy of your PCS orders to the Airman and Family Readiness Center at your gaining or losing base.
