Location: Joint Base Langley-Eustis (JBLE) is located on the Virginia Peninsula on the southeastern coast of the state. Hampton Roads is the name of the metropolitan area as well as a body of water surrounding the region. Langley AFB is located in Hampton while Ft. Eustis is in Newport News; both are just a few miles off of Interstate 64. Although JBLE is a joint base, it is not contiguous. There are 17 miles of interstate between the installations. Hampton Roads is known for its large military presence. You will find all branches of the military in the region. JBLE is home to the 633rd Air Base Wing, Air Combat Command, U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, and many other units on the tip of the spear. Visit JBLE's website and the Facebook page.

BRAC Status: In accordance with the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure Commission report, Langley Air Force Base in Hampton and Fort Eustis in Newport News merged their administrative functions, becoming Joint Base Langley-Eustis (JBLE) Jan. 29, 2010. The joint-basing initiative is preceded by the standup of the 633rd Air Base Wing Jan. 7, 2010. The Wing is an Air Force-led mission support wing, serving both Air Force and Army units. Joint basing promotes and fosters a more cohesive operational partnership between the Air Force and Army while preserving mission capabilities and unique service identities.

Cost of Living: There are several communities in the local area: Hampton, Newport News, Yorktown, and Poquoson. Hampton and Newport News cost of living are slightly lower than the national average while Yorktown and Poquoson are higher than the national average.

Recreation at Langley and Ft. Eustis includes arts and crafts, bowling, library, auto hobby, recreation center, theater, golf, gyms, tennis, swimming, outdoor activities, camping, fishing, and stables, visit the JBLE Force Support website for all of the details.
