Life Skills is one of the programs of Marine Corps Family Team Building within Marine Corps Community Services which enhances family readiness. Life Skills offers classes and workshops to encourage personal growth and strengthen the military family for continual readiness.

Workshops are open to all active duty, DoD civilians, spouses, and retirees.

Relationship Series 4 Lenses™ – This workshop is based on the Myers-Briggs and Kiersey Temperament Indicator. Learn more about yourself and your preferences as well as others when it comes to work, parenting, relationships, and more.

5 Love Languages – Based on the book by Gary Chapman, learn how to better communicate love effectively. As military families, you deal with deployments, separations, and reintegration; discover how to meet each other’s emotional needs even while apart.

7 Habits of Highly Effective Military Families – Based on Stephen Covey’s best-seller: The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. This course will help you learn how to be more proactive in your decisions, think win-win and achieve synergy as a family and go from just surviving to thrive.

Building Lasting Relationships – The challenges of a military lifestyle can place many demands on you and your family members. This workshop provides practical information and tools to enhance healthy relationships.

Developing Healthy Blended Families – This workshop is designed to help you and your family members gain a better understanding of the common and practical issues facing blended families.

How to Avoid Falling in Love With a Jerk (Jerkette) – This workshop is an eye-opening, practical, and fun way to learn “how to avoid falling in love with a jerk or jerkette.”

Managing Millennials – Generation Y workers typically prefer not to deal with the stringent hierarchy or traditional structure in a work environment. Come learn the most effective way to get them to do what you want.

PREP – Prevention and Relationship Enrichment Program, or PREP, teaches you and your spouse/significant other how to effectively communicate, work together as a team to solve problems, manage conflicts without damaging closeness, and preserve and enhance commitment and friendship.

Communication Series Conflict Management – This workshop addresses interpersonal conflict and is designed to help you and your family members become more aware of conflict; empowering you to make healthy choices by managing your responses to conflict, both at home and in the work place.

Interpersonal Communication – This workshop is preventive in nature, to increase competence in using more effective communication skills, and to promote healthy relationships through communication.

Social Networking Safety – This workshop will help you and your family members understand the importance of personal and operational security when engaging in social networking.

Wellness Series Adult & Dependent Care – This workshop will help you and your family in dealing with the complexities of assisting elderly adults.

Basic Anger Management – This workshop is a basic overview of anger management for you and your family members. It provides education on the dynamics of anger and offers a variety of acceptable coping strategies to handle angry feelings and behaviors.

Basic Stress Management – This workshop is designed to help you and your family members minimize stress by providing them with basic education on the concepts and management skills needed to successfully navigate both the everyday stress and extraordinary stress of a military lifestyle.

Emergency Preparedness – This workshop outlines the importance of your families to always be prepared for all types of emergencies.

Family Care Plan – This workshop will educate you and your family members on the basics of a Family Care Plan. It will outline the significance of a Family Care Plan, and the importance of always having it updated. Your personal readiness is directly affected by the arrangements you have made for the care of your family.

Impact Series 5 Choices to Extraordinary Productivity –This workshop will enable you to make day-to-day decisions that are focused on your most important outcomes instead of focusing on the gravel that gets thrown at you constantly. You will learn to eliminate the activities that distract you from achieving your most important goals.

Character Counts for Kids – This program is the biggest character education program in the nation. Children are the future, so this class focuses on teaching good character, making better choices, and ethical living. Character Counts concentrates on values, choices, and cultures.

The Change Element – This innovative workshop will provide you with the skills necessary to better handle the ever-changing environment of the military through enhancing awareness and removing obstacles that prohibit positive change skills and successful reintegration.

The Happiness Advantage – Based on Shawn Achor’s book by the same title, and as taught in Harvard’s famed Happiness Course, this workshop will teach you how to excel in a world of increasing workloads, stress, and negativity. The Happiness Advantage will show you how to reap the benefits of a happier and more positive mindset to achieve the extraordinary in our work and in our lives.

Safe & Sound at Home – This workshop provides important safety precautions for your family, and instills them with the ability and confidence to be responsible for their personal safety as well when you are deployed or separated.

Scared of “The Call”? – This workshop will help minimize stress and confusion for your family members by providing a brief overview on the casualty process, the role of the Casualty Assistance Calls Officer (CACO), and information on benefits, support services, and organizations.
