Deployment Support- Joint Base Lewis- McChord

Deployment can be a challenging phase of the military lifecycle, but it’s important to know that you don’t have to go through it alone. The military provides a variety of resources and support programs — ranging from educational briefings to morale calls — for your loved ones, children, and service members to ease the stress of deployment. Military members may be assigned to a specific installation but support may come from local communities, Yellow Ribbon events, or the installation itself.

Deployment Service Program

Mobilization, Deployment, Stability and Support Operations

The Mobilization, Deployment, Stability and Support Operations program provides professional and timely support to active duty, reserve and guard soldiers and their family members through individual consultations, training programs and services developed to enhance the well-being and self-reliance of the Joint Base Lewis-McChord community. The program is the principal source of Soldier and Family Readiness Group resources and services, aids unit commanders with family care plans, assists individuals and units in preparing for upcoming deployments or reunions, and much more. MD&SSO can be reached by telephone at 253-967-6200/9496 or 253-477-6435.

Available briefings and trainings include:

  • Pre-deployment Workshops
  • Care Team Training
  • Family Care Plans
  • Reintegration and Reunion Workshops for families
  • Children and Deployment Workshops
  • SFRG Key Contact Training
  • SFRG Funds Custodian Training
  • SFRG Command Team (Company Commanders & 1SGs) Training
  • SFRG Command Family Readiness Representative (CFFR) Training
  • SFRG Advisor Training

Support Groups associated with our program are:

Soldier and Family Readiness Groups – Connect with your unit’s SFRG to get connected to your new community. The SFRG will be able to assist with resources and is a wonderful way to network with other family members within the unit your soldier is assigned. You may contact the unit commander or first sergeant to connect with the SFRG. If you would rather contact MD&SSO to assist with this, please call 253-967-6200/9496 or 253-477-6435. Another option would be to locate the unit’s Facebook page.

Military and Family Life Counseling supports service members, their families and survivors with free confidential non-medical counseling where they are stationed. Non-medical counseling can help individuals address issues such as improving relationships at home and work, stress management, deployment adjustments, parenting, and grief or loss. Most brigades have embedded MFLCs. The Soldier and Family Readiness Group Advisor or the Command Family Readiness Representative will be able to provide the phone number for the embedded MFLC. Service members and family members assigned to units without an embedded Military and Family Life Counselor should call: 253-293-2223/253-334-8714 (male counselor) or 253-363-6975/253-213-4038/253-921-1106 (female counselor).

There are also Child and Youth Behavioral Military and Family Life Counselors available to talk to children and youth, facilitate group activities, guide parents and work with staff to process interactions and concerns. Please visit the JBLM Military and Family Life Counselor webpage for a list of phone numbers.

Please note: duty to warn, suspected family maltreatment (domestic violence, child abuse and neglect), harm to self or others, and illegal activity are all exceptions to privacy.

Military OneSource counselors are available for free, short-term, confidential non-medical counseling services for a wide range of issues, including relationship conflicts, stress management, coping with loss and managing deployments. Sessions can take place in person, over the phone or via secure video or online chat. Call Military OneSource at 800-342-9647 to speak with a consultant 24-hours a day, seven days a week, from anywhere in the world.

The Pet Brigade- Joint Base Lewis McChord

The Pet Brigade is a full-service pet spa that is owned and operated by Regis and Nancy Jackson. It is the only privately owned boarding facility on a military post in the United States. The Jacksons worked with Joint Base Lewis-McChord personnel to develop this kennel so that military families, retirees, and civilians with JBLM access would have the finest accommodations for their pets.

After several years of working with the Contracting Office of the U.S. Department of the Army under the Department of Defense, along with the Office of Morale, Welfare, and Recreation at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, the facility opened on April 14, 2008.

Since 2008 The Pet Brigade has helped thousands of soldiers with their pet care needs, ranging from lodging during deployment, rehoming and fostering pets, helping transport military pets across the globe, and everyday care. Pets are an integral part of many soldiers’ lives, and The Pet Brigade was founded to fulfill that need in military life. Regis and Nancy, along with their staff, believe that it is the ultimate blessing to work with and help those who stand up for our Nation every day.
