The San Diego–Coronado Bridge, locally referred to as the Coronado Bridge, is a prestressed concrete/steel girder bridge, that crosses over San Diego Bay in the United States, linking San Diego with Coronado, California. The bridge is signed as part of State Route 75.

In 1926, John D. Spreckels recommended that a bridge be built between San Diego and Coronado, but voters dismissed the plan. The U.S. Navy initially did not support a bridge that would span San Diego Bay to connect San Diego to Coronado. They feared a bridge could be collapsed by attack or an earthquake and trap the ships stationed at Naval Base San Diego.

Construction on the San Diego–Coronado Bay Bridge started in February 1967. The bridge opened to traffic on August 3, 1969, during the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the founding of San Diego.

The Vietnam Unit Memorial Monument is a large, flag-adorned memorial wall and three “brown water” Navy boats that honor the Navy and Coast Guard personnel who died while supporting Naval operations during the Vietnam war. It’s a park-like setting that includes a picnic table and awning. The monument is located on the Naval Amphibious Base on Coronado. If you do not have a Department of Defense ID to access the military base, you will need an escort. Coronado Promenade Concerts are held in Spreckels Park, centrally located in Coronado at 7th Street and Orange Avenue. The 8-acre park features a playground, gazebo, picnic tables, and restrooms. The park was donated by and named after one of Coronado’s founding fathers J.D. Spreckels in 1927.

Coronado Promenade Concerts take place at the gazebo bandstand in the center of the park. It is a great place to gather with friends to picnic and listen to music on warm summer evenings.

Located across Ocean Boulevard from North Beach and Dog Beach, this all-grass park has a small play structure at the north end. Public restrooms are available beachside. Organized sports activities are only allowed for teams U8 and under. Permits for events of up to 100 may be obtained by Coronado residents only by submitting the above Park and Beach Application.

Tidelands Park, offers a small beach, recreational fields, picnic areas, and plenty of open space for a variety of outdoor activities. In addition, the park boasts a scenic bike path that extends from the Silver Strand to the Old Ferry Landing, granting visitors pristine views of San Diego’s vibrant waterfront. Its playground is recognized as a model of inclusive design for people with disabilities.
