Preventive Care

Preventive Care at the 60th Medical Group - Travis Air Force Base consists of Allergy and Immunizations, Diabetes Education, Infectious Diseases, Nutritional Medicine Outpatient, Outpatient Nutrition, and Public Health. For more information, please visit the individual health services.

Allergy and Immunizations

We diagnose and treat a variety of allergic and immunologic conditions including atopic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis, asthma, eosinophilic esophagitis, primary immune deficiencies, urticarial and angioedema, and allergies to food, medication, and venom. New patients need a referral from their primary care provider. The Allergic Clinic or Referral Management Center will book the initial appointment. Current patients can call the clinic for follow-up care. The Immunizations clinic provides routine childhood and adult vaccines in addition to vaccines required for deployment. The Immunization Clinic is a Walk-In Clinic.

Influenza Vaccine Update

Flu season is upon us. We are concerned about your health and encourage everyone to get vaccinated annually against influenza.

It’s critical that everyone who is able receives a flu vaccine. It’s essential that active duty service members, active duty family members, and other beneficiaries are well-protected from influenza.

TRICARE covers the flu vaccine. Please see the guidance below for getting the flu vaccine here at David Grant USAF Medical Center.

Active Duty Service Members (ADSMs):

Active duty and Guard/Reserve members are required to get the flu vaccine.

  • Vaccines for ADSMs are not yet available
  • You can opt to get the flu vaccine in participating network pharmacies.

Remember, not ALL network pharmacies participate in giving vaccines. To find a participating pharmacy, please visit: https:/militaryrx.expres-scripts.com/find-pharmacy

You’re encouraged to call ahead to the pharmacy to ensure that they have the vaccine available and accept TRICARE.

When you get a flu vaccine from anywhere besides David Grant USAF Medical Center, follow your Service policy guidance for recording the vaccine in your shot record. You'll need the following information:

  • The date the vaccine was given
  • The vaccine name or code
  • Manufacturer
  • Lot number

When using your TRICARE benefits to receive the flu vaccine off base please allow 3 duty days for it to reflect in your medical record. If your IMR is still not reflecting the flu vaccine after the 3 duty days then please bring a copy of your flu vaccine with the above information documented and your DOD ID number on it to the Immunization clinic. It may take us up to 3 duty days to transcribe these records.

Other Beneficiaries Ages 3 – 6 Years

  • At this time we do not have the flu vaccine available for beneficiaries ages 3 – 64 years.
  • Please call 707-423-5104, and select the flu option for the most up-to-date information.
  • You have the option to get their flu vaccine in participating network pharmacies.

Beneficiaries >65 years old, children ages 6-35 months

  • Flu vaccines are available at the Travis AFB Fitness Center
  • Monday – Friday 0800-1600
  • No appointment is needed, Walk-in only

Other Options for Getting the Flu Vaccine

If you’re unable to get the flu vaccine here, you can visit any participating network pharmacy or TRICARE-authorized (civilian) provider. Visit www.tricare.mil/flu to learn more.

COVID-19 Vaccine Availability

The CDC recommends COVID-19 vaccination for all aged 5 years of age and older. FDA-approved or authorized COVID-19 vaccines are currently available to all U.S. citizens and residents. Visit the CDC website for more information.

  • COVID-19 vaccines are safe, effective, and free.
  • Getting the vaccine can reduce the risk of severe disease, hospitalizations, and long-term complications for COVID-19
  • For children, the vaccine can also curb community transmission and reduce disruptions to in-person learning activities.

To learn more, visit the CDC website to get answers to frequently asked questions, see Interim Clinical Considerations, and bust myths about vaccines.

Getting the COVID-19 Vaccine at the 60th Medical Group

COVID-19 vaccines and boosters will now be provided in the Immunizations clinic located on the 2nd floor, next to the Family Health clinic. You must schedule an appointment!

To schedule, please visit https://informatics-stage.health.mil/TravisCOVIDApp/. For more booster information, please visit https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/booster-shot.html.

For answers to some of the most common questions related to COVID-19, explore our COVID-19 Information FAQs.

DOD COVID-19 Vaccine Service Member Mandate

COVID-19 vaccines are required for all members of the armed forces on active duty or in the Reserve or Guard components, including pregnant service members, according to DOD. Each service decides its own deadline for vaccination.

  • If you’re a service member and have received a COVID-19 vaccine from a non-DOD provider, make sure to update your medical records.
  • If you haven’t received your COVID vaccine yet, schedule your vaccine as soon as possible.
  • Find a DOD COVID Vaccine Location near you.

If you have questions about the COVID-19 vaccine mandate, contact your unit commander.

COVID-19 Vaccine for Children ages 5 through 17 years

The CDC recommended all children aged 5 years and older receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Currently, COVID-19 vaccines are not authorized for children under 5 years of age.

If you’re unsure if the vaccine is right for your child, we recommend discussing your child’s medical conditions, including prior reaction to vaccines, with a medical provider. For some immunocompromised children, a third primary series/additional dose is recommended for children age 5 and older.

Booster Dose

The CDC recommends everyone 12 years and older receive a booster dose after completing the primary series of the COVID-19 vaccine.

  • People aged 18 years and older who received Pfizer-BioNTech-COMIRNATY® or Moderna COVID-19 vaccines should receive a 1st booster dose 5 months after dose 2 of the primary series.
  • Children 12 and older who completed the primary series of Pfizer-BioNTech-COMIRNATY® COVID-19 vaccine should receive a 1st booster dose 5 months after dose 2 of the primary series.
  • If you received the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine you should get a booster dose 2 months after your initial Janssen dose.

CDC has also expanded eligibility for an additional (second) booster dose for certain individuals who may be at higher risk of severe outcomes from COVID-19:

  • People aged 50 years and older, or who have a weakened immune system may receive a second mRNA (Pfizer-BioNTech-COMIRNATY®, and Moderna) booster dose, 4 months after the first booster dose.
  • Individuals aged 18 years and older who received the Johnson & Johnson/Janssen vaccine may have a second booster dose of either mRNA (Pfizer-BioNTech-COMIRNATY®, and Moderna) vaccine.
