With the motto of “Dare and Will,” Sembawang Air Base, located in the northern part of Singapore, consists of 100 helicopters that support the Singapore Army and the Republic of Singapore Navy. It is the home base to all the RSAF helicopter squadrons, consisting of AS-332 Super Pumas, CH-47SD Chinooks, Sikorsky S-70B, and the AH-64D Longbow Apache attack helicopters.
History
The airbase was named RAF Sembawang way before Singapore gained independence from the United Kingdom. The station of Sembawang and Seletar was taken over by the Japanese during WWII and then they surrendered leaving the stations in British Control. The base was renamed to Sembawang Sir Base in 1971 when it got put under control by the Singapore Air Defense Command. When the first resident helicopter squadron- 120 Squadron- was migrated for good from Changi Air Base in 1983, it became a full-fledge rotary-wing airbase.
