The commuter shuttle service, commonly called the Home-To-Work Bus, is provided by the Public Works Department as a convenience for Negishi and Ikego Housing residents that work on the main base in Yokosuka.

Revised CFAY Base Shuttle Bus/Home-to-Work Bus Services

The reduction in service is due to a decrease in Transportation funds. Careful consideration was taken to analyze all of the current operations and decide which elements of Transportation would be impacted. Our Home To Work (HTW) service is 'nice to have that has been provided over the past years because there was never a limit set for our funding.  As the DOD/Government becomes more strict in their funding allocations, those services that are used for convenience are now being looked at with more scrutiny.  The HTW bus service was developed to support our service members and employees working on the Yokosuka Base but living in our outlying areas.  Ikego was chosen as the location where this service would be reduced for several reasons:

(1) Six bus runs were going to/from Ikego and Yokosuka

(2) Ikego has a train station/stop inside of their base

(3) Ikego is the closest satellite base to Yokosuka

(4) Ikego's bus volume is primarily students vice our intended riders (service members or employees of Yokosuka)

The 0600 and 1630 bus times were chosen for removal based on historical ridership data, avoidance of increased driver overtime, and type of personnel (employee or student) utilizing the bus system."

We encourage all of the Ikego residents to utilize the public transportation provided. Thanks for your assistance with this!
